Some days, you think it is mid-life crisis. Some mid-afternoons, epiphany shows up, not vices.

Have you ever noticed ending up with a headache after meeting someone? Or a headache because you went into a meeting to firefight but came out a martyr, thanks to your own words?

I have experienced both situations. And after studying some of my experiences, I have understood the art of turning a situation around.

When we exist with a lack of awareness about ourselves, life seems to be governed by situations, people around us and mood swings. And our sanity and happiness seems to be at the mercy of everything external. Sometimes, we come back home from a party and suffer from aches and pains. These are nothing more than reactions to interactions where we were not able to accept something or speak back from our point of view. But we most likely think about the whole experience as a physical ailment due to drinking, late nights, stress, ageing, etc.

However, when we practice mindfulness on a daily basis by engaging in meditation, breath work, journaling and living in the present, we can look at the same headache in a new light. Disclaimer, it takes consistent effort to understand ourselves. It is also pertinent to know that we are made up of energy and that is what we emit. Our energy is nothing but a frequency we are tuned into. It can change throughout the day just like blood pressure.

Let’t take the case of a happy morning. Everything seems to be going well. But by afternoon, you need a team member to perform a certain task. You call him/her up. There is no response. As a back story, let us assume you have had a negative experience even earlier where this person wasn’t able to complete the said task. They did not do it on purpose. But as a manager you perceived it as act done to disreard you / your authority. The second or the third time round, when this member does not answer your call, your mind gives you a direct verdict that this is a faulty person. Now imagine going through a couple of other negative interactions on the same day.

It takes the mind only a few seconds to work the Math, add all negatives together and spiral your mood from good to bad in no time. Congratulations, you have successfully altered the frequency you are tuned into this morning. As a result, you are now attracting more of how you feel. By tea time, you may even suffer a headache, not knowing what actually caused it. You may end up thinking it was too much work stress. The real reason is a lack of awareness and therefore lack of corrective measures to change your energy.

So can we flip the switch? 1000%

The answer goes back to awareness. When our brain announces a negative verdict, we have two choices for bringing about change :

  1. Choose to ignore the verdict and make some positive visualizations and assumptions about the person / situation and believe that the positive is true. Give your perceptions a break.
  2. Choose not to take this feeling personally, especially if it is someone at your workplace. Remember, we cannot change the other person. But we can change the way we feel about everyone and everything.

Taking either step helps to feel positive and have clarity of thought. Also, when your energy radiates positivity, others who come in contact with you feel the same. Which means you have chosen to now receive positive outcomes.

So have I tried this theory? Absolutely. And the results are magical.

P.S. If we are consider ourselves as energy and that fuels our body and we assume our bodies are EV, our thoughts and words are charging stations, here is a little experient we can try. Be in awareness in case symptoms like feeling low, depressed, sad or angry surface. If yes, take them as indicators of low energy. The next step is the conscious choice – to use thoughts, words and visualization with the intent of turning the situation in our favour. The biggest benefit, you do not need to rehearse a fight or confrontation mentally and drain yourselves more in case of a confrontation. You do not need closure or confrontation. Let the mind do the work and relay your intent. The results will follow. Ever heard we attract our tribe?
