Happy Teacher’s Day to every single teacher who has helped me learn a lesson. As children, teachers are ones we see in school. The ones that teach us academics and sports and arts. But as we grow up, we realise that every single person and every single experience is a teacher.

And then our children walk into our lives. And end up becoming our biggest teachers. I vividly remember, as a new, first-time mother, I thought my job entailed, feeding, loving and raising a perfect individual that would obey me, live by my rules and turn out to be the best factory output as an adult. Far from truth. After bring proven wrong over and over again in the first six months, I arrived at the conclusion that I was in fact the student, not my kids. If anyone, I was the guinea pig, not my kids. And there started my real journey as the student of life.

From understanding more about myself, my relationship with people, values and beliefs, my children have been the best teachers I ever found. It is my children that got me started on this journey of writing. When they were younger, they taught with love. Now in their teens, they teach with love, ignorance and friction. It is just like studying for a degree. The number of subjects keeps increasing and so does the intensity of training with the age of my children.

Apart from children, family, school teachers and friends, I feel immensely grateful to every spiritual teacher who has been a part of my life and shown me the way.

P.S. So this teacher’s day, let us honour all masters who have come our way and helped us learn a new skill, let go, forgive and ultimately heal and accept everything that comes our way. Because guess what, everything comes for a reason. And it helps us grow in the exact direction we need for growth.
